Boat Measurement

All boats shall have MDS for the boat they will be competing with on file with the SDYC Sailing Office. Measurement times will be established in the order of on-site check in. Contact Kenyon Martin, Measurement Coordinator for details.

Boat Charters

Charter boats will be available based on the quantity of racing-quality Snipes available in the local San Diego area, plus a few others that we should be able to pull in. Charters will be arranged on a “first come-first served” policy to the extent that we can provide boats. However, please note that boats will be assigned according to demand by each country. The actual charter boats will then be fairly and evenly distributed to the various countries through their National Secretaries who may then distribute their lot to their team members desiring charters, as they deem fit. Different countries and/or charterers may have different needs and financial capabilities, so this will not be an exact science. Boat distribution will be conducted in the fairest way possible to make sure each country has a mixture of newer and older boats, as the charter pool permits. DISCLAIMER We highly encourage the shipping of Snipes to San Diego for this event. Bringing your own boat is the best insurance you can have if you hope to sail to your own capabilities and reach your goals at the 2009 Junior and World Championships. The local fleet is limited and consists of mostly older Persson Snipes from the early to mid 90’s (average age is 10+ years old). We do expect to have at least 30 of these older Persson Snipes for charter (all of which have had excellent race records over the years and will be fully rigged and ready to go fast and win!). We should also have a small handful of 6-10 newer to brand new boats available, but this is beyond our control at this point as we await confirmation from boat builders Jibetech and DB Marine.  If you know local San Diego sailors or others in the US with boats, feel free to make a private deal. You might even want to contact Jibetech or DB Marine for the inside scoop on the availability of new boats being brought in. If you arrange a private charter, we can still insure it for you for about $50 per regatta. We will make a list of boats available and mast types when possible so you can see our availability. Note that masts will stay with their respective boats. Prices will vary slightly, but for the most part, older boats will average $600 per event while new boats will run about $1000 per event. National Secretaries and/or competitors should submit their charter requests and let me know if they want to request newer boats thrown into their pool. Some may prefer to take their chance with the older boats and save money. No problem there. If mast type (Proctor vs Sidewinder) is an issue, let me know.  We will mix and match to the best of our abilities. Some will be happy, some will not get everything they want, but that is the way charter programs are. We can only make do with what we have in the fairest way possible. This is why we strongly urge all countries to ship as many of their own boats as possible! Contact Bob Bowden, Charter Boat Coordinator for details.
